Tea and Poetry in the Garden

We welcome back Tea and Poetry in the Garden, as part of our annual celebration of National Poetry Month. Come enjoy an afternoon in our beautiful Garden Venue, with a full tea service catered by Lovejoy’s Tea Room. Your tea service will be accompanied by a lineup of renowned poets, reading an array of poetry of various genres. Reserve your seats.
Meet our participants:
Deborah Kennedy will read from her award-winning book, Nature Speaks:Art and Poetry for the Earth. Deborah’s poetry often references scientific knowledge while she shares her deep reverence for the complexity and allure of the natural world. This presentation will introduce viewers to the mysteries of ice halos, and to models of holistic thinking that can help us move toward a thriving world.
Diana Tenes imakefaces.com is native to the San Francisco Bay Area and is Mexican American. She has poetry published at the International Museum of Art in San Francisco, the 34th Annual Emeryville Arts Exhibition, Verses, Voices & Visions of Vallejo Anthology, a Video Poem in the Solano County Library, Benicia Times Herald, Modern Latina Magazine, Women at Woodstock, Gnashing Teeth Publishing “Insurrection Anthology” and an article published at narrativepathsjournal.com. She’s an Actress, Make-up Artist and Costume Designer for Film/TV. She has written, produced, directed Children’s Theater. She authored a book on shopping sustainably “90% OFF Every Day!”, wrote a card game for Happiness “Get Your Happy!”. Diana’s been in The Wall Street Journal “Fashions New Tour Guides Offer Insider’s Perspective” and SFGate.com-”Walnut Creek: Art and the human Canvas”.
Dara Kashayar is 16 years old and a junior year at Campolindo High School. He has worked in the Oakland mayor’s office, at the Food Bank and with the Oakland Toy Drive. He is passionate about making tangible change for equity in Oakland and using his voice. He is currently in the running to be Oakland’s next Youth Poet Laureate.
Terry Tierney’s collection of poetry, The Poet’s Garage, was published by Unsolicited Press in May 2020. His poems and stories have recently appeared in The Remington Review, Ghost Parachute, Rust and Moth, Typishly, Valparaiso Poetry Review, The Lake and other publications. Lucky Ride (Unsolicited Press), an irreverent Vietnam-era road novel, appeared in December 2021, and his novel The Bridge on Beer River will be released in 2023. Terry will read a short selection of poems from his collection, The Poet’s Garage, and a brief excerpt from his novel, Lucky Ride, along with some recent poems.
