Une encre riche et épaisse pour un apprentissage profond
S.A. Dorje Chang Buddha III
This landscape painting entitled “Rich, Thick Ink Displays Profound Learning” is in the “Wenfeng” style. Looking at its content, one can see that the application of brush to paper reflects the same touches and brushwork found in calligraphy. The viewer can immediately see very solid, traditional artistic skills as well as a scholarly tone that pervades the entire painting. A charm suggestive of both calligraphy and poetry is
contained within this one painting, thereby demonstrating a high degree of artistry.
From the brush strokes, details and color, one can see that the real is hidden within the surreal, the surreal is revealed from within the real, and what appears chaotic is actually not. This is exactly what is meant by the saying, “Seen from near, it appears chaotic. Seen from afar, one discerns a myriad of mountains and elegant chaos that reveals ingenuity and profundity.” When viewed from a close distance, the image appears confusing, as if it is just a flat scene without any nearby rocks or remote mountains. However from a far distance, the image is extremely clear. The various layers of depth become obvious. Far away and nearby mountain ridges, terraces, and paths become extremely clear. Standing at a distance of about thirsty feet, the viewer can truly recognize the essence and charm of “Rich, Thick Ink Displays Profound Learning.”
