Erik Hunter

ABOUT
Erik’s artistic sensibility was shaped by the dramatic natural and urban landscapes of the Northwest United States, where he grew up and studied art at the University of Washington.

Rooted in a lifelong curiosity about the forces that define human experience — belief, authority, and the natural world — his work seeks to illuminate how these forces quietly govern the way we see ourselves and each other.

After beginning to show abstract paintings in galleries across The Netherlands in 2009, Erik built a practice spanning commissions and studio work, with exhibitions in both the US and Europe. His work has since grown to encompass still life and surrealism, always guided by the tension and resonance between the places and ideas he encounters.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Erik explores the complex and often turbulent interplay of culture, politics, and spirituality—on both the individual level and society at large. Using various mediums, he creates vivid narratives that invite viewers to engage deeply with themes that shape our existence.

His work emerges from the belief that the spectrum of ideologies are entwined and profoundly influence not just societal structure but also our personal identities. Through his paintings, he seeks to unearth the layers of emotion that arise from the conflicts and harmonies created by these forces.

Each piece acts as a mirror, reflecting the anxieties, hopes, and complexities that define our shared human condition—inviting the viewer to see the familiar through an unfamiliar lens.
