The International Art Museum of America is pleased to present My Backyard at Midnight, a solo exhibition of work by Cheryl Tall, opening October 10th, 2025.
Cheryl Tall’s work derives inspiration from mythology, folk art, Surrealism, and Abstract Expressionism. Eyes are represented as windows, hair takes the form of a row of shingles, and the heads are crowned with animal figures or buildings. She uses a coil/pinch technique to create a textured, corrugated surface, to take things one step away from Reality.
Tall’s work is inspired by childhood memories, medieval sculpture, and current events. As a small child, Tall imagined that her toys would come alive while she was sleeping and would dance around in her backyard!
In this exhibition, Cheryl Tall’s ceramic sculptures and paintings serve as visual narratives of dreams. experiences and memories.
