Exhibition Statement
I was born in 1963 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China—a renowned cultural city with a history spanning more than 2,500 years. From an early age, I developed a deep passion for calligraphy and painting. In 1979, I was admitted to the Suzhou Arts and Crafts School, where I received systematic training in drawing, gouache painting, calligraphy, seal carving, and other traditional artistic disciplines.
At that time, the school was located next to the Humble Administrator’s Garden, one of China’s four most celebrated classical gardens. Being immersed daily in the atmosphere of traditional gardens and the essence of Eastern aesthetics provided me with a profound source of inspiration and spiritual nourishment for my future artistic practice in calligraphy, painting, and seal carving. Suzhou has long been regarded as one of China’s great cities of calligraphy, producing generations of distinguished artists and scholars. The deep cultural heritage of this land has continuously nurtured and guided my artistic journey.
For the decades following my graduation, I have remained devoted to my artistic practice, working diligently and persistently to refine my skills. Through years of study and dedication, my work has received broad recognition within China’s artistic community.
This November, I am honored to hold a solo exhibition of calligraphy and seal carving at a museum in San Francisco, United States. This exhibition across the Pacific is not only an opportunity to reflect upon and present the results of my decades-long artistic journey, but also a meaningful occasion for cultural exchange through art. Through the presentation of my calligraphic works and seal carvings, I hope to share and promote the richness of traditional Chinese culture with audiences abroad.
San Francisco is home to many outstanding Chinese and Chinese American artists and is a city known for its inclusive, diverse, and vibrant artistic atmosphere. Through this exhibition, I also hope to meet more artists from overseas, learn from their artistic ideas and creative practices, and foster greater understanding and exchange between Chinese and international art. It is my sincere hope that, through mutual appreciation and dialogue, different artistic traditions may come to know and inspire one another, creating harmony and beauty together.
