Join Friends of IAMA!
The International Art Museum of America (IAMA), located at 1025 Market Street in San Francisco, is a non-profit museum dedicated to celebrating global art and cultural diversity. Our collection includes everything from Chinese calligraphy and European oil paintings to contemporary works and congressionally recognized artists.
We offer internship and volunteer opportunities throughout the year for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the museum field. These roles are ideal for high school students, college students, recent graduates, and community members interested in art, museum operations, event planning, and more.

Internship Program
Our internship program is designed to provide practical experience and mentorship in a supportive and professional environment. Interns work closely with museum staff across departments, including Programming, Operations, Development, and Curation.
Who Should Apply:
- College students, recent graduates, or individuals exploring careers in museums, arts, or nonprofit administration
- Preferred majors (but not required): Art History, Museum Studies, Design, Marketing, Communications, or related fields
We welcome applicants of all backgrounds!

Possible Areas of Focus:
- Intake and organization of artwork
- Installation and deinstallation of exhibitions
- Event planning and on-site support
- Social media and marketing assistance
- Artist/vendor communication and community outreach

Schedule & Format:
- Internships are unpaid, but we provide a $15/day transportation stipend for on-site work
- Full-time and part-time positions available (varies by season)
- Interns receive a full museum orientation and daily check-ins with staff
- Interns must bring a laptop if needed for tasks
- Professional attire required for formal events; comfortable clothes for day-to-day museum activities

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are welcome to support the museum on a flexible, ongoing basis. Tasks may include:
- Greeting and assisting visitors
- Staffing events and gallery openings
- Administrative support
- Community engagement and translation assistance
