Jade Panel Painted in Oil Colors Lotus Pattern Jade

H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III

“Speaking of the most famous marble, it would be marble with the patterns of duckweed and seeds inside lotus pods. Such marble cannot be unearthed in mountains or valleys. Its superb exquisiteness can only be produced through ink.” This poem composed by H. H. Dorje Chang Buddha III refers to a marble-like jade called “Lotus Pattern Jade.”

What is the most famous and precious type of marble? That would of course be marble “with the patterns of duckweed and seeds inside lotus pods.” The patterns on the surface of such gemstones may resemble those of duckweed floating near lotus flowers. Such patterns may also have the air of lotus pod seeds that fuzzily float up and down, which patterns are most rare. Marble with these patterns can be regarded as gemstones of which even those in heaven would be proud. However, you will not find such treasures even if you traverse the entire earth with all of its mountains, waters, land, and continents. That is the why the poem states: “Such marble cannot be unearthed in mountains or valleys. Its superb exquisiteness can only be produced through ink.” Only through the brushwork of H. H. Dorje Chang Buddha III and His application of the “Chaoshi” technique can such a uniquely exquisite Lotus Pattern Jade be created for all to see.
